Millions around the world participate in Earth Hour on March 30, 2019 at 8:30 p.m. local time by switching off the lights to draw attention to the environmental issues of wildlife and habitat loss and climate change.
Starting as a symbolic lights out event in Sydney, Australia in 2007, Earth Hour is now the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment, inspiring millions of people to take action for our planet and nature.
Wilkinson will be observing Earth Hour with the TDSB on the afternoon of Friday, March 29th, beginning around 2:15pm. Lights and electronics will be turned off in the classrooms for one hour.
There are many ways to celebrate the hour at home! Play board games or have a picnic by candlelight, go stargazing, camp out in your living room, sing songs and tell stories, go on a flashlight treasure hunt, or make lanterns for use during lights out.
