Welcome to the School Year!

We’re so happy to have you at Wilkinson! We’d like to take this opportunity to welcome back all returning students, families and staff and to give a warm first welcome to all new Wilkinson families and staff.

Below you’ll find some information to help you navigate the first few weeks of school.

Drop-Off Procedures:
Morning entry is at 8:45am. The schoolyard is supervised beginning at 8:30am – please do not drop-off children earlier than this unless they are coming for a scheduled activity. For student safety, as parking lots can be very busy, the use of the school parking lot is not permitted for drop-off and pick-up and vehicles without an authorized TDSB permit are subject to ticketing and towing. The designated drop-off/pick-up lane is located in front of the school on Donlands Ave.

Kindergarten
For the first week of school, Kindergarten students should be dropped off inside their classrooms each morning.

After the first week, students should be dropped off in the Kindergarten playground on the north side of the property. Attendance sheets will be located on clipboards along the fence by the gate. Please sign your child in by checking off the appropriate box beside their name.

Grades 1 and 2 and Room 18
At the back doors of the school nearest the fenced in ball court at the south end of the property, there are numbered lines painted on the ground. Students should line up on the line with their corresponding room number to be escorted inside by their teachers.

Grades 3 to 6
Students enter through the side doors at the north side of the property (near the Learning Garden). Children should first wait at the bottom of the stairs until the doors are opened by a staff member; then they may proceed to their classrooms.  Please note that Room 18 should enter/exit through the south doors listed above (see “Grades 1 and 2 and Room 18”).

For information on lunch time pick-up and drop-off, end of day pick-up, and to see a property map, please refer to the Parent Handbook.

Cell Phones:
Please note that while on school property, cell phones are only permitted before and after school, not during class time, at recess or at lunch.

Nut Allergies:
Please remember that Wilkinson is a nut free school. We have a number of students who have life-threatening anaphylactic allergies to a variety of nuts (e.g. walnuts, pecans, peanuts, hazelnuts including chocolate hazelnut spreads etc.) and wish to keep our school as safe as possible for everyone.

It’s important to note that “peanut free” and “nut free” are not the same thing.  When packing lunches and snacks, please remember to never send products containing nuts of any type (peanuts or otherwise) to school.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping to ensure the safety and well-being of our students.

Litterless Lunches:
As a Platinum EcoSchool, we request that our students bring litterless lunches and snacks (including a reusable water bottle) to school.  A litterless lunch is one that does not include materials that go into the garbage or recycling (milk cartons are the exception).  For example, a litterless lunch contains reusable lunch containers and bag, reusable drink containers, reusable cutlery, and compost items.  Students are asked to make sure their litter is placed in the correct disposal bins provided, and are encouraged to bring healthy snacks that are not pre-packaged to help us cut down on litter. This is especially important since the introduction of our student-led initiative to eliminate single-use plastics at the school. Thanks for your support!

Over The First Few Weeks:
Sometime during the first week or two you’ll receive a set of forms from the school in your child’s backpack. If you don’t find them, please check with your child’s teacher.

You’ll also be receiving emails containing information about the Parent Council, fall events, pizza lunch and how to opt-in to classroom contact lists.

Finding Information:
The Parent Handbook includes valuable information about school policies and procedures as well as a section dedicated to Kindergarten.

The Communications Committee works hard to keep Wilkinson families well informed through emails, this website, Facebook and Twitter.  If you ever have a question, don’t hesitate to send us an email.

We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, September 3rd!
